Wind chimes are popular not just for their beautiful sounds but also for purifying and enhancing energy. The soothing and melodious sounds make them a popular addition to the home and garden where a gentle breeze will bring music to your ears and possibly bring positive energy into your surroundings.

What are wind chimes?

Wind chimes are percussion instruments that can be crafted out of rods, tubes, bells or other items. Common materials are glass, metal, wood and bamboo. The suspended rods create movement and sound when the wind blows through them.

What do wind chimes sound like?

Wind chimes can make simple songs or broken chords and they have an infinite variety of tones that can be subtle and soothing or deep and harmonious. The material of the chime dictates the sound that’s emanated. The sounds created are music to most ears but just noise to others so be courteous of your neighbors when you choose the placement of your wind chimes.

What are wind chimes used for?

The calming sounds bring a healing and restorative effect to many people.

According to Feng Shui practices, windchimes can be used to remove negative energy.

Wind chimes bring prosperity and good luck into your home when they’re placed in the correct area.

Metallic wind chimes go in the west, north or northwest corner.

Bamboo or wood chimes should be placed in the south, east or southeast.

Ceramic ones go in the northeast, southwest or central areas.

And the most obvious use is for purely aesthetic reasons. The chimes add beauty, movement and sound to your house and garden.
